Sump Pump Failure Cleanup in Henderson, NV
When a sump pump fails, stay out of the water until the power to that area is off. Get a plumber out for the pump, then call us for the cleanup. We extract the standing water, treat it as contaminated, remove what it ruined and dry the space.
Sump pumps are rare in the Las Vegas Valley because most homes sit on a slab with no basement. The ones we see are in custom homes with basements and a few older properties with a low area built to collect water. If you have one, it's easy to forget about it until the day it stops.

The pump quit. Now what?
Most people here have never owned a sump pump before the day it fails. Here's what they ask.
Why did the pump stop?
Usually one of a few things: the power went out, the float switch got stuck, or the motor burned out. Sometimes the discharge line is clogged. A plumber can tell you which one it is and whether the pump can be repaired. You don't need that answer before calling us.
Is this water dirty?
Assume it is. Water in a sump pit is groundwater and runoff that's been sitting there, picking up soil and whatever drains toward the pit. We treat it as Category 2 at least. If outside floodwater or sewage mixed in, it's Category 3. Category 2 water can turn into Category 3 if it sits long enough.
Can I pump it out myself?
You can start with a wet vac if the power to that area is off and you're wearing boots and gloves. Don't use a household vacuum. A wet vac gets the puddle. It won't get the water already soaked into carpet pad or the bottom of the drywall.
Who do I call first, the plumber or you?
Both, the same day. While the pump is down, water can keep coming in. We can start extraction and drying while the plumber works on the pump, and we'll tell them what we opened so nobody's surprised.
What about everything stored down there?
Cardboard boxes on the floor wick water fast, so get them onto something dry. Hard items like plastic bins, metal and glass can usually be cleaned. Soft, porous things that sat in the water, like cushions, paper and fabric, often can't be cleaned well enough to keep.
How much does it cost? Will insurance pay?
Water mitigation in the Las Vegas Valley usually costs $1,500 to $4,800. That covers getting the water out, drying the structure and checking it with moisture meters until the readings are back to normal. If drywall, baseboards or flooring had to come out, the repairs are a separate estimate, so you see each part on its own.
After a sump pump failure, the price depends on how high the water rose and what it reached. A few inches on bare concrete is a quick extraction and dry-out. Water in a finished room means carpet, pad and drywall come out, with cleaning for contaminated water.

Insurance or self-pay, you decide
Insurance usually pays when the water came on suddenly, like a supply line that split overnight. A leak that dripped for months usually isn't covered. Your carrier makes that call, not us.
We handle the record: photos, moisture readings and a line-item estimate built in Xactimate, the same software most adjusters use. Then you compare it with your deductible and decide whether to file.
Pull out your policy and look for a water backup or sump overflow endorsement. Whether you have one usually decides the claim.
Paying yourself? Ask about the self-pay discount. The estimate is free, and you see the price before we start.

How we clean up after a sump pump failure
- 1
Kill the power to the area
Before anyone steps in, we confirm the circuits for the basement or low area are off, including the pump's own outlet.
- 2
Extract the water
We pull the standing water out with extraction equipment. If the pump is still down, we handle the water that's still coming in and tell you how fast it's rising.
- 3
Figure out how dirty it is
We look at where the water came from and how long it sat. That tells us whether we're handling Category 2 or Category 3.
- 4
Remove what can't be cleaned
The area gets sealed off with plastic first. Then carpet pad, the bottom of wet drywall and porous items that sat in contaminated water come out.
- 5
Clean, then dry
Hard surfaces get cleaned and treated with an antimicrobial. Then dehumidifiers and air movers run until the readings say dry.
- 6
Rebuild what came out
Once the space reads dry and the pump is working again, the drywall, flooring and trim go back in.
Sump pump claims often come down to the documentation.
Policies handle sump pump losses in very different ways, depending on the wording and what caused the failure. Clear records give the adjuster something concrete to review.
We photograph and log the loss starting on the first visit, so you're not trying to rebuild the story later.

What's included
We handle the water and the damage. The pump is a plumber's job.
What we do
- Extracting standing water from the basement or low area
- Deciding the water category before anything is removed
- Removing wet carpet pad, drywall and porous items that can't be cleaned
- Antimicrobial treatment on the surfaces that stay
- Dehumidifiers and air movers until the readings say dry
- Photos and a line-item estimate for your insurance carrier
- Rebuilding the drywall, flooring and trim that came out
What we don't do
- Repairing or replacing the sump pump. That's a plumber.
- Installing battery backups, alarms or water sensors.
- Electrical repairs to the pump circuit.
- Basement waterproofing or drainage work outside.
If the water spread beyond the pump area, our flooded basement cleanup page covers the rest of a below-grade space, and flood cleanup covers the first day in the rest of the house.
Sump pump failure questions
What should I do when my sump pump fails?
Turn off the power to the flooded area if you can do it from a dry spot. Move boxes and valuables off the floor. Call a plumber for the pump and call us at 888-453-3591 for the water. Take photos before anything is moved.
How much does sump pump failure cleanup cost?
A water dry-out usually runs $1,500 to $4,800 in the Las Vegas Valley. A few inches in an unfinished utility space sits at the low end. Water in a finished room with carpet and drywall costs more. If those materials have to be rebuilt, that part is often about twice the dry-out. The estimate is free.
Does insurance cover sump pump failure water damage?
Many homeowners policies only cover a sump or drain backup if you added a water backup endorsement, and some don't cover it at all. Check your policy or ask your agent. Your carrier decides. We give them photos, readings and a line-item estimate either way.
Is sump pump water Category 2 or Category 3?
Most of the time it starts as Category 2. It becomes Category 3 if outside floodwater or sewage got into it, or if it sat long enough. We make that call on site because it changes what we can keep.
Can you replace my sump pump?
No. Replacing or repairing the pump is a plumber's job. We clean up the water, dry the space and rebuild what the water ruined.
