The leak was days ago. Is it too late?
No, but the clock matters. The EPA says mold can start on wet materials within 24 to 48 hours. If you're past that and the wall is still damp, we treat it as a mold job and a drying job at the same time.
Can't you just dry it now that it's moldy?
Drying stops new growth. It doesn't remove what already grew. Dry mold is still mold. So drywall that grew it comes out, and the framing gets cleaned before it's dried.
Who fixes the leak?
A plumber, or a roofer if the water came in from above. We don't repair plumbing or roofs. We'll find the source with our meters, show your plumber exactly where it is and hold the rebuild until the repair is done.
Was the water dirty?
It depends where it came from. A clean supply line is Category 1. Washer or dishwasher water is Category 2, and Category 2 left standing can turn into Category 3. Sewage and outdoor floodwater are Category 3 from the start. The dirtier the water, the more material has to come out.
How far did the mold get behind what I can see?
Water runs along the bottom of walls and under flooring, and mold follows it. We take readings past the stain until the material reads dry. That dry line, not the stain, sets how far we cut.
