Is this a good time to change things?
Often it's the best time you'll get. The drywall is already open, the old floor is already gone, and you're living around a construction zone either way. Picking a different floor or moving a vanity usually costs less now than tearing out new work later.
Will insurance pay for the upgrade?
Usually not. A covered claim pays to put the damaged area back the way it was, with materials of the same kind and quality. If you want something nicer or different, you pay the difference. Your carrier decides what the claim covers. Our job is to write the insurance repair and your upgrades separately, so nobody has to guess.
How do you keep the two budgets separate?
