Wet walls, drying and a roof tarp after a storm in West Sahara
We got called out for a wet wall and ceiling in a West Sahara home after the storm. We packed up the room, opened it to the framing and tarped the roof.
Packing out the built-in shelves first gave us clear access to the lower wall for the thermal scan. Containment went up before demo, in case there was mold, and the drywall, insulation and part of the ceiling were taken to the framing so the cavity could dry. The tarp on the roof was held down with sandbags.

Where this job was
This house is between Sahara Avenue and Torrey Pines Drive on the west side of Las Vegas, about half a mile from Davis Park and Rainbow Family Park. Rainbow Boulevard is close by too, and US 95 is a couple of miles to the north.
What we did
- 1 Packed the room contents into labeled boxes and cleared the built-in shelves.
- 2 Scanned the lower wall with a thermal moisture meter.
- 3 Set up plastic containment with a zipper door before demo, in case there was mold behind the drywall.
- 4 Removed the wall drywall, the insulation and part of the ceiling down to the framing.
- 5 Set air movers around the opened room so the air circled past every wet surface, with a dehumidifier in the middle and an air scrubber trapping dust and airborne particles like mold spores.
- 6 Tarped the roof and held the tarp down with sandbags.
