Stained kitchen ceiling under a wet vanity in Providence
We got called out for a stained kitchen ceiling in a two-story Providence home, below an upstairs bathroom vanity that was wet.
The thermal meter confirmed the wet area of the stained kitchen ceiling, and opening it exposed the joists and ductwork. Containment with zipper doors went up in the kitchen before the cut, in case there was mold above the drywall. Upstairs, the vanity base and flooring came out so the subfloor could dry.

The house is near Shaumber Road and Dorrell Lane in Providence, about half a mile from Dorrell Park. Centennial Parkway is also nearby, and the 215 Beltway is only about half a mile away, so the freeway is a quick trip from the front door.
What we did
- 1 Scanned the stained kitchen ceiling with a thermal moisture meter.
- 2 Hung plastic containment with zipper doors to seal off the work areas, in case there was mold behind the finishes.
- 3 Removed the wet ceiling drywall to expose the joists and ductwork.
- 4 Took out the upstairs vanity base and flooring to reach the subfloor.
