Wet wall at a water softener alcove in McCullough Hills
We got called out for a wet lower wall around the water softener alcove in a McCullough Hills home, on both sides of the wall.
The wet drywall wrapped around the alcove and continued on the tiled room side of the same wall, so both faces came off to bare framing. Containment with a zipper door went up before any cutting, in case there was mold inside the wall. Once the studs and bottom plates were exposed, we took moisture meter readings on them.

This McCullough Hills home is in the foothills between Horizon Ridge Parkway and Gibson Road, about a mile from the Paseo Verde and Shaded Canyon trailheads. The 215 Beltway, I-11 and Lake Mead Parkway are each about a mile from the house.
What we did
- 1 Set up a plastic containment barrier with a zipper door around the work area before any cutting, in case mold was inside the wall.
- 2 Removed the lower drywall around the water softener alcove down to the framing.
- 3 Opened the matching wall section on the tiled room side of the same wall.
- 4 Took moisture meter readings on the exposed studs and bottom plates.
