Garage ceiling and hallway water in a McCullough Hills townhome
We got called out for a wet garage ceiling in a McCullough Hills townhome, with wet carpet in the upstairs hallway above it.
The thermal scan found the wet area in the garage ceiling, and upstairs the hallway carpet and pad came up to a stained subfloor. The garage floor was covered and containment went up before demo, in case there was mold above the ceiling. With the joists open, the drying equipment ran right under the opening.

This home is close to Stephanie Street and Horizon Ridge Parkway, about half a mile from Cabo Blanco Park and Cornerstone Park. The 215 Beltway is only a few blocks away, and Lake Mead Parkway is about a mile off.
What we did
- 1 Scanned the garage ceiling with a thermal moisture meter to find the wet area.
- 2 Covered the garage floor before any demo.
- 3 Set up plastic containment with a zipper door before any carpet or drywall came out, in case there was mold above the ceiling.
- 4 Pulled the carpet and pad in the upstairs hallway, which showed a stained subfloor underneath.
- 5 Cut out the wet garage ceiling drywall and insulation to open the joists.
- 6 Placed air movers under the open ceiling to push air around the garage in a circle, with a dehumidifier in the middle and an air scrubber filtering out dust and airborne particles like mold spores.
