Kitchen ceiling and upstairs carpet water in Lone Mountain

We got called out for wet carpet in the upstairs hallway of a two-story Lone Mountain home and water through the kitchen ceiling below it.

In the kitchen, the thermal scan around the recessed lights showed the wet section of ceiling, and the drywall and insulation came out to the joists. The island, counters and cabinets were wrapped first, and containment went up before any carpet or drywall was removed, in case there was mold. Upstairs, the wet carpet and pad were pulled and bagged.

What we did

  1. 1 Scanned the kitchen ceiling with a thermal moisture meter around the recessed lights.
  2. 2 Wrapped the island, counters and cabinets in plastic.
  3. 3 Sealed off the work areas with plastic containment before any carpet or drywall came out, so any mold spores would not spread through the house.
  4. 4 Pulled back the wet carpet and pad in the upstairs hallway and bagged the debris.
  5. 5 Cut the wet ceiling drywall out to the joists and removed the insulation.
  6. 6 Ran air movers on the kitchen floor in a circular pattern to keep air moving over every wet surface, with a dehumidifier in the middle and an air scrubber cleaning dust and airborne particles like mold spores out of the air.
