Walk-in shower torn out and dried in Southern Highlands
We got called out for a walk-in shower in a two-story Southern Highlands home with stained grout lines and wet readings at the base of the walls.
The staining continued across the shower pan, and once the panels, curb and pan were out, we scanned the exposed subfloor too. The bathroom was contained with zipper doors before any of it came out, in case there was mold behind the panels. Drying then ran right in the open shower.

This home is in the Southern Highlands area near Jones Boulevard and Cactus Avenue, about half a mile from Aldeane Comito Ries Elementary School. Silverado Ranch Boulevard is close by, and I-15 is a couple of miles away for trips toward the Strip.
What we did
- 1 Took thermal moisture readings at the shower base and curb.
- 2 Hung plastic containment with zipper doors around the bathroom, in case there was mold behind the shower panels.
- 3 Removed the shower wall panels, curb and pan to expose the subfloor and framing.
- 4 Scanned the exposed subfloor with a thermal moisture meter.
- 5 Set air movers in and around the open shower to keep air moving in a circle, with a dehumidifier in the middle and an air scrubber filtering dust and airborne particles like mold spores.
