Primary shower and tub deck tear-out in Northwest Las Vegas
We got called out for high moisture readings around the walk-in shower and tub deck in a Northwest Las Vegas primary bathroom.
The shower curb, wall tile and backer board came off to the framing, and the tub deck was opened so the debris could be cleared off the subfloor. Containment went up before demo, in case there was mold behind the tile. We came back on follow-up visits to check the exposed subfloor with a moisture meter as it dried.

This house is near Jones Boulevard and Tropical Parkway in northwest Las Vegas, about half a mile from Eagle Creek Heights Park and Polly Gonzalez Memorial Park. Ann Road is close by too, and the 215 Beltway is about half a mile away.
What we did
- 1 Took thermal moisture readings on the shower tile, tub deck and floor.
- 2 Set up plastic containment with a zipper door before demo, in case there was mold behind the tile.
- 3 Removed the shower curb, wall tile and backer board down to the framing.
- 4 Opened the tub deck and cleared the debris from the subfloor.
- 5 Aimed the air movers to move air around the bathroom in a circle, set the dehumidifier in the middle and ran an air scrubber to filter dust and airborne particles like mold spores.
- 6 Checked the exposed subfloor with a moisture meter on follow-up visits.
