Wet kitchen ceiling opened and dried in North Las Vegas
We got called out for a wet ceiling over the kitchen in a two-story North Las Vegas home.
The thermal scan started on the kitchen walls, then the cabinets and counters were wrapped in plastic and the kitchen taped off before the ceiling came down. With the drywall and insulation out, the joists and plumbing in the ceiling cavity were exposed, and drying ran inside the contained kitchen.

This North Las Vegas home is near Tropical Parkway and Pecos Road, about half a mile from Shadow Creek Golf Course. Centennial Parkway is another main road close by, the 215 Beltway is about a mile away, and I-15 is a couple of miles off.
What we did
- 1 Checked the kitchen walls with a thermal moisture meter.
- 2 Covered the cabinets and counters with plastic.
- 3 Taped off the kitchen with plastic containment before the ceiling was opened, in case there was mold above the drywall.
- 4 Removed the ceiling drywall and insulation over the kitchen to expose the joists and plumbing.
- 5 Set air movers on the protected kitchen floor to push air around the room in a circle, with a dehumidifier in the middle and an air scrubber filtering dust and airborne particles like mold spores.
