Wet wallpapered walls opened and dried in Lake Las Vegas

We got called out for wet walls behind a wallpapered finish in a two-story Lake Las Vegas home. The work also took us outside to the balcony wall.

The moisture scan marked the wet sections behind the wallpaper before any tear-out, and once the drywall came off, the studs and insulation were exposed. Containment went up before the first cut so nothing behind the wall could spread into the rest of the house. Outside, we opened the balcony stucco and took readings on the sheathing underneath.

What we did

  1. 1 Checked the wallpapered walls with a thermal moisture meter to find the wet sections.
  2. 2 Built plastic containment around the wall work before cutting, in case there was mold behind the wallpaper.
  3. 3 Cut the drywall away to expose the studs and insulation behind it.
  4. 4 Pointed the air movers so they drove air in a circle around the room, with a dehumidifier sitting in the middle and an air scrubber pulling dust and airborne particles like mold spores out of the air.
  5. 5 Opened the stucco on the balcony wall and took readings on the sheathing underneath.
