Garage water heater alcove opened and rebuilt in Aliante
We got called out for stained, wet walls around the water heater alcove in an Aliante garage.
The thermal scan on the stained wall picked up the moisture, and the drywall in the alcove came off to the studs and base frame. Containment went up before the cut, in case there was mold behind the drywall. On the return visit, the dry alcove got new drywall, texture and primer.

This Aliante home is about half a mile from Aliante Nature Discovery Park, with Deer Springs Park about a mile out. Centennial Parkway and Camino Eldorado are the main roads nearby, and the 215 Beltway is about a mile away.
What we did
- 1 Scanned the stained garage wall with a thermal moisture meter.
- 2 Set up plastic containment around the alcove before any drywall came off, in case there was mold behind it.
- 3 Removed the drywall in the water heater alcove down to the studs and base frame.
- 4 Set a dehumidifier in the middle of the garage with air movers around it keeping the air moving in a circle, plus an air scrubber filtering dust and airborne particles like mold spores.
- 5 Rebuilt the alcove with new drywall, then textured and primed it.
